Watch the World Cup semifinals. And stream the season finale of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
2018 FIFA WORLD CUP 2 p.m. on Fox. To say that both England and Croatia are hungry to reach the World Cup finals would be a grave understatement. England’s last trip was in 1966, while Croatia has never been. The teams face off on Wednesday for a chance to meet France on Sunday. Croatia will try to beat fatigue after playing two consecutive 120-minute games, relying on a talented and experienced midfield led by Luka Modric. England hopes young phenoms like Harry Maguire and Harry Kane will continue to stay poised as the spotlight grows increasingly bright.
MASTERCHEF 8 p.m. on Fox. You can watch Gordon Ramsay yell himself blue for two hours tonight, without ever changing the channel. On “MasterChef,” Mr. Ramsay, the British food maven, officiates the wedding of Shaun O’Neale (winner of Season 7) and leads the effort to feed the wedding guests. And in GORDON RAMSAY’S 24 HOURS TO HELL AND BACK at 9, he heads to Mississippi to revamp a stagnant restaurant in business for three decades.
TKO: TOTAL KNOCK OUT 9 p.m. on CBS. Comedy norms may shift drastically from generation to generation, but pratfalls remain in style. The history of humor derived from grown-ups falling down can be traced from Buster Keaton to Chris Farley to the modern Japanese show “Slippery Stairs” and now to this new game show, hosted by Kevin Hart — who is no stranger to physical comedy himself. While one contestant tries to navigate an obstacle course, competitors fire giant projectiles to knock them off. The show is produced by Mark Burnett of “The Apprentice” and “Survivor.”
THE HANDMAID’S TALE on Hulu. Season 2 of this dystopian drama comes to a close following last episode’s public execution. Offred (Elisabeth Moss) tries to protect her newborn daughter, while Emily (Alexis Bledel) learns more about her eccentric new commander (Bradley Whitford). “I think it’s a very surprising, powerful and emotional experience,” Eric Tuchman, a writer and producer for the show, told The Hollywood Reporter about the season finale. “Our audience will see things and confrontations they have been hoping for.”
HARLOTS on Hulu. At age 62, Lesley Manville is hitting a career renaissance, buoyed by an Oscar-nominated turn in “Phantom Thread” and a starring role in the recent production of Eugene O’Neill’s “Long Day’s Journey Into Night.” She embraces a far bawdier role in “Harlots,” which dives into the prostitution trade of Georgian England. Ms. Manville plays Lydia Quigley, a powerful brothel owner who competes for business with another madam, Margaret Wells (Samantha Morton). Liv Tyler joins the cast for Season 2, which begins streaming on Wednesday. “‘Harlots’ has a zippy pep, never dwelling too much in its darker realities but also not trying to ignore them completely,” Margaret Lyons wrote in Watching for The New York Times.
