On Sunday it was claimed Tekashi69, AKA 6ix9ine was robbed, pistol-whipped and kidnapped on his way home from a recording studio.

According to TMZ, sources claimed three hooded gunmen got out of their car, grabbed Tekashi and knocked him unconscious around 4am.

‘We’re told the next thing Tekashi knew, he was in the back seat of the car as the gunmen were driving around, telling him if they didn’t get what they wanted from him they would kill him,’ the publication reported, before the men allegedly raided his house.

Around $750k (£571k) in jewellery and between $15k (£11k) and $20k (£15k) in cash was reportedly taken from the premises, while Tekashi’s partner and their daughter were reportedly inside the property but unhurt.

TMZ claimed the rapper was then able to escape the vehicle, with the gunmen still inside, flagging down a passerby who called 911 at an intersection.

He was reportedly transported to a hospital by ambulance where it has been claimed he’s received various tests, including a CT scan.

But who is the New York-based, self-proclaimed King of New York?

The 22-year-old rapper – real name Daniel Hernandez – was born 8 May 1996 in Bushwick, Brooklyn, and rose to fame on the release of his debut single Gummo in late 2017.

In 2009 his father was murdered, and to help his mother financially he worked various jobs including selling marijuana, before he started rapping in 2014.

He soon became an internet meme due to his intriguing appearance, which includes rainbow-dyed hair, a rainbow grill, and various tattoos over his body, including his face.

The rapper – who is of Mexican and Puerto Rican descent – also has a child, a daughter, with partner Sara.

What songs has he released?

He most recently released a collaboration with rapper Nicki Minaj, FEFE, on the weekend, only hours before his reported assault.

However, he shot to fame last year with his song, Gummo which peaked at number 12 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

His mixtape, Day69, went on to debut at number four on the Billboard Hot 200 chart and he’s also collaborated with Fetty Wap on the song KeKe.

Has he been arrested before?

The rapper has an extensive history when it comes to the law.

Hernandez was arrested this month on an outstanding warrant after an incident where he allegedly strangled a 16-year-old in a Houston mall in January.

He was released from Rikers Island on $150,000 (£114k) bail.

He posted to Instagram that he could be going to jail ‘forever’, and after he was pictured outside of court this week, fans are suspecting he may genuinely be about to be incarcerated.

In April members of his crew were arrested over ‘shots fired at rival Casanova’, while the rapper was also said to be under investigation in regards to the Chief Keef shooting that took place 2 June in New York City at the W Hotel.

Billboard reported the rapper was in Los Angeles at the time, but that police were keen to see if he ordered the hit.

He was also reportedly involved in an altercation with Fetty Wap, even though the two were said to be friends after collaborating on 6ix9ine’s song KeKe.

Hernandez pled guilty to a charge of Use of a Child in a Sexual Performance in October 2015, after videos were posted online of him with a naked 13-year-old girl.

Hernandez pled guilty to one felony count of Use of a Child in a Sexual Performance.

6ix9ine also faces a misdemeanor assault charge after he was accused of assaulting an NYPD lieutenant after he was reportedly arrested for driving without a licence.

Hernandez allegedly grabbed and squeezed an NYPD lieutenant’s hand, causing the lieutenant to ‘suffer substantial pain’, according to a criminal complaint provided by the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office in May.
