In just under a week from now, 2018's God of War will officially be one year old. Releasing to a number of perfect scores and general praise across the board, it was also voted Push Square's Game of the Year by our team of budding Kratos appreciators. To mark the moment, a free PS4 theme can be downloaded from the PlayStation Store right now as a sign of thanks, while an avatar set will follow in three days time on 17th April. Alongside that, the studio took to YouTube to thank the fans.
On the PlayStation Blog, Santa Monica Studio head Shannon Studstill said that the game was a huge leap of faith. "Change to a longstanding franchise comes with immeasurable doubt, a studio defining risk and a huge leap of faith. Thank you to our entire worldwide team; the Sony PlayStation family and you, the millions of God of War fans around the world who embraced that leap with us, on a journey we never expected. We made this journey together."
She goes on to say that the following week will be a seven-day celebration of God of War, stating that the feedback the studio has received since launch has been nothing short of humbling. "Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for embracing the new God of War and for helping Santa Monica Studio rise up to a new beginning as well. From our whole team to you, that has meant everything to us. Now, we have a long journey ahead."
